Interim Dean David Wrobel is the David L. Boren Professor and Merrick Chair of Western American History at OU. A historian of the American West and American thought and culture, his course offerings include the introductory survey, US History, 1865-Present, The Progressive Era, The Great Depression and New Deal, and John Steinbeck’s America, as well as graduate seminars on the American West. His last book, Global West, American Frontier (2013) received the Western Heritage Award for non-fiction; his new book, America’s West: A History, 1890-1950, will be published in November 2017. A dedicated promoter of partnerships between the academy and K12 educators, David also serves as an Organization of American Historians Distinguished Lecturer. He is Past President (2007- 2008) of the American Historical Association's Pacific Coast Branch, and of Phi Alpha Theta, the National History Honor Society (2004-2006). David received the Holden Award for Teaching Excellence from OU's College of Arts and Sciences in 2016. He is dedicated to nurturing the connections between the science, social science, humanities, and professional programs that comprise the College of Arts and Sciences, as well as the connections between undergraduate and graduate education and research.
